Nashik Civic Body Deploys Automated Water Testing Sensors at Godavari Ghats

Nashik | October 10: In a major environmental initiative ahead of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Smart City Development Corporation have commissioned real-time water quality monitoring sensors along the Godavari river. Installed across five critical points spanning the Gangapur dam outlet, Anandvalli, Someshwar, Ramkund, and Tapovan, the solar-powered telemetry stations measure dissolved oxygen, turbidity, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and pH levels around the clock.

Real-Time Data Feeds and Industrial Pollution Detection The sensor arrays transmit automated readings every fifteen minutes to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) located at the municipal corporation headquarters. If industrial effluent discharges or unauthorized sewage inflows trigger sudden parameter spikes, automated alerts are sent to pollution control inspectors and drainage engineers to halt contamination at the source.

Historic bathing ghats like Ramkund experience massive pilgrim footfalls during ceremonial Snan dates, making consistent microbial safety and water clarity a primary public health priority for district administrators. Alongside the sensors, civic authorities are upgrading decentralized sewage treatment plants (STPs) along adjacent storm water tributaries to guarantee that only treated, clean water reaches the river basin.

Community Transparency and Public Dashboards To foster civic accountability and reassure incoming pilgrims, real-time river quality indices will be displayed on digital electronic message boards positioned along the main Godavari promenades. Environmental activists and river conservation groups have welcomed the telemetry initiative, noting that continuous digital data will prevent illegal waste dumping by industrial units.

Civic authorities plan to add biological aeration fountains along stagnant river sections to preserve dissolved oxygen levels during hot summer months. The entire automated monitoring network will remain operational throughout the Simhastha congregation.
