Priyanka Chopra joins We Were Here as an executive producer, bringing her Hollywood influence to support independent Indian storytelling ahead of the upcoming Academy Awards campaign season.

Priyanka Chopra Joins as Executive Producer

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has officially boarded young Indian director Pranav Bhasin’s Oscar-qualified short film as an executive producer. Impressed by the project’s poignant blend of humour and contemporary angst, the global star noted that the production offers a refreshing and witty take on a very timely subject. She expressed excitement about joining the team to amplify their creative vision and ensure it receives proper attention.

Written and directed by Bhasin, the sharp mockumentary is set in a sleepy Indian town. It follows three retired seniors who become convinced that artificial intelligence is making human labour obsolete, leading them to disguise themselves in public as ordinary household appliances. Their bizarre rebellion encounters an ironic twist when one of their children secures a job at an advanced AI tech firm.

Global Success and Festival Run

The satirical comedy has already charmed critics across eighty global festivals. It has accumulated over twenty international honours, including top prizes at the Palm Springs International ShortFest and SXSW, thereby securing its official Oscar consideration.

Filmmaker Pranav Bhasin shared that the project began as a small, silly idea about three uncles attempting to halt the spread of AI. He noted that international industry support feels surreal, with the filmmaker bolstered by a strong executive team that also features British acting powerhouse Andrew Scott. Produced by Yash Gonsai, Dheer Momaya, and Dar Gai, and acquired by The New Yorker for its official channel, the project continues to build major global momentum.
