WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met with K-pop sensation ENHYPEN in Korea to celebrate the triumph of their joint initiative for World Blood Donor Day.
Meeting the Band in Korea
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who has openly expressed admiration for the group, met with the six members of ENHYPEN—Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki—during his visit to Korea. The gathering marked the culmination of their partnership with the World Health Organization for World Blood Donor Day, which took place in June. Back in June, the band members demonstrated their dedication by visiting a local Red Cross centre in Korea to make donations themselves. To inspire voluntary and unpaid donations, the initiative utilized music, social media platforms, and the group’s global fan community, known as ENGENE. Tedros emphasized on Friday that blood represents the ultimate gift of life that an individual can offer to someone else. He expressed deep pride in the dedication and teamwork shown by the group members in championing the cause to save lives. Highlighting the massive reach of the initiative, the WHO leader noted that the campaign successfully connected with millions of people, proving the genuine influence wielded by both the artists and their supporters.
Campaign Results and Fan Participation
Reflecting on the partnership, the group expressed gratitude for the widespread participation from their supporters globally. They initiated the campaign with the hope that their fans would join them, and they voiced their eagerness to continue driving meaningful change alongside their community. As part of their contributions, the performers worked alongside the health agency by releasing videos and impactful social media posts that highlighted the crucial need for blood donations. According to statistics released by the organization, the Drop Your Drop initiative gathered over 9,000 pledges from individuals across 177 nations, with more than 3,250 of those pledges coming directly from the band’s dedicated fans.
