The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has introduced a comprehensive new digital framework aimed directly at digital news portals, content creators, and social media platforms. In an effort to curb the rapid spread of AI-generated misinformation and malicious deepfakes, the new guidelines require digital publishers to implement stricter fact-checking mechanisms and transparent source verification. The framework also offers subsidies for independent news websites upgrading their content management systems and cybersecurity protocols. While major media houses have welcomed the move as a step toward restoring journalistic integrity online, some independent web developers have raised concerns about the technical compliance costs.
