Netflix Unveils ‘MED’ – Its First-Ever Brazilian Medical Drama Series

Email : 34

Streaming giant Netflix is expanding its global programming with the announcement of ‘MED’, its very first medical drama series produced out of Brazil.

The upcoming show features Clara Moneke in the starring role and is backed by the production house Paranoid. The project is currently in active production. This milestone follows closely on the heels of Netflix greenlighting its inaugural Brazilian courtroom/legal drama, titled ‘Habeas Corpus’ (produced by Cafe Royal).

A Look at Netflix’s Expanding Brazilian Slate

The medical drama is part of a broader, diverse wave of newly announced Brazilian originals. Netflix is leaning heavily into local storytelling after launching a brand-new corporate headquarters in Brazil this past January.

The upcoming content lineup includes:

1. Documentaries and Melodramas

  • Arctic Exploration Documentary: A film from Maria Farinha Filmes that chronicles sailor Tamara Klink’s solitary, courageous voyage across the Arctic.
  • Untitled Melodrama Series: A highly anticipated project helmed by acclaimed director Rogerio Gomes and brought to life by production company A Fabrica.

2. Comedy Projects

  • ‘Os Crentes’: A dedicated comedy special.
  • Untitled Open Marriage Project: A new series centered on modern relationships, created by Alexandre Machado, directed by Jose Alvarenga Jr, and produced under Manas Filmes.

3. Other Upcoming Originals In Development

  • ‘Radioactive Emergency’
  • ‘Brasil 79’ (A soccer-centric drama)
  • ‘The Pilgrimage’ (An adaptation of the celebrated book by author Paulo Coelho)

Elevating Local Stories for Global Audiences

Speaking about the strategic expansion, Elisabetta Zenatti, Vice President of Content at Netflix Brazil, highlighted the creative vision behind these upcoming releases.

“Our new projects reflect just that: different genres, perspectives, and creators, all with great potential to connect with audiences both in Brazil and internationally. This lineup is an incredible opportunity to showcase the unique strength, diversity, and depth of the stories we are currently developing in Brazil.”
