OpenAI has announced a major breakthrough with its latest Codex update, enabling the AI to go beyond writing code and actually operate a user’s computer autonomously. This new “Computer Use” capability allows the AI to see what is on the screen, move the cursor, click buttons, and type text across various desktop applications like Excel, Slack, and professional design tools. Designed to act as a “digital agent,” the updated Codex can handle multi-step tasks such as extracting data from emails to create a financial spreadsheet and then messaging the summary to a team on Slack. This shift toward “Agentic AI” aims to eliminate repetitive manual tasks, allowing developers and office professionals to focus on high-level creative work while the AI manages the background logistics of their personal workflow
