Government to Revamp CBSE Payment Gateway: Education Minister Meets with Top PSU Banks

Email : 32

Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, held a high-level meeting on Tuesday with senior executives from four major public sector banks to discuss a comprehensive overhaul of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) payment gateway system.

The strategic consultation involved top officials from:

  • State Bank of India (SBI)
  • Bank of Baroda
  • Canara Bank
  • Indian Bank

Core Objectives of the Digital Overhaul

The primary focus of the discussion was to build a highly dependable, secure, and student-centric digital payment framework. This system will handle critical post-examination financial transactions, including:

  • Processing fees for paper re-evaluations.
  • Requesting and obtaining photocopies of answer scripts.
  • Managing all other student and school-related fee collections.

Key Directives Issued to Banks

Minister Pradhan instructed the participating financial institutions to collaborate closely with CBSE to establish seamless transaction protocols. The upcoming upgrades will focus on several critical areas:

  • Swift Processing: Ensuring punctual financial transactions across all services.
  • Instant Resolution: Deploying mechanisms for the immediate troubleshooting of payment glitches.
  • Automated Refunds: Setting up automated systems to quickly return funds in cases of duplicate or failed transactions.
  • Technical Safeguards: Embedding advanced security protocols, real-time transaction monitoring, and swift grievance handling systems into the gateway architecture.

“This initiative must be given the absolute highest priority to safeguard students from experiencing technical failures or payment disruptions in the future,” Pradhan emphasized, urging the banks to deliver a completely smooth and secure digital environment.

Moving Forward

The four public sector banks pledged their full cooperation, committing to deploy the necessary technical upgrades and enhanced protocols in tandem with CBSE at the earliest.

This meeting follows an earlier discussion on May 24, where Minister Pradhan consulted with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to address the payment hurdles and technical bottlenecks recently encountered by students during the post-result and re-evaluation phases.
