Maharashtra’s Growth Engine: Samruddhi Mahamarg Final Leg Nears Completion

Email : 4

Mumbai: The ambitious Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, a flagship 701 km access-controlled expressway, is entering its final, crucial phase of construction. This transformative project, connecting Mumbai and Nagpur, is poised to reshape the state’s economic landscape. The latest reports indicate that over 94% of the total project is now complete, with the tricky 76 km stretch between Igatpuri and Amne (near Thane/Mumbai) receiving maximum attention.

Overcoming Challenges in the Final Stretch: The Igatpuri-Amne section has been the most challenging, featuring the highest number of tunnels and viaducts in the entire project. Engineers are using specialized tunnel boring machines and Austrian tunneling methods to cut through the treacherous terrain of the Western Ghats. “This final leg is complex. It involves constructing one of India’s longest highway tunnels—over 7.7 km in length. Our teams are working 24/7 to ensure it meets strict safety standards before opening,” a senior Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) official told Cosmo News. The completion of this segment will finally reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur from the current 15-16 hours to a mere 8-9 hours.

Economic Impact and Modern Features: The Samruddhi Mahamarg is not just a road; it is designed as a growth corridor. The project integrates twenty-plus ‘Krushi Samruddhi Kendras’ (new towns) being developed along its route, focusing on agro-processing, industrial development, and logistics. It is the first major Indian highway designed with a 120 kmph speed limit and features wildlife crossings, solar power integration, and EV charging stations at every node. Property prices in connected districts like Washim, Buldhana, and Jalna have already seen a significant uptick.
