OSLO, NORWAY — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Oslo to attend the high-profile 3rd India-Nordic Summit. The high-level multilateral forum brings together heads of state from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway to significantly deepen strategic cooperation across economic corridors.
The summit aims to build a more robust, strategic dimension into India’s relationship with the Nordic region. Key discussions are centered around accelerating tech innovations, clean energy transitions, and reinforcing global maritime supply chains.
Strengthening Global Business and Free Trade
Ahead of the official assembly, Prime Minister Modi engaged in crucial bilateral meetings with Iceland Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir, Finland Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to review trade growth and investment metrics.
The diplomatic tour heavily features economic integration strategies, highlighting massive market opportunities under the newly operationalized India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). Business leaders from both regions are focusing on streamlining regulatory environments to scale green hydrogen, semiconductor manufacturing, and digital infrastructure projects.
MEA Addresses Press Queries on Civilizational Values
The high-profile trip also drew media attention during a joint press appearance in Oslo. In response to questions raised by local reporters regarding press conferences, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly defended the country’s democratic framework, explicitly noting that India stands firmly as a resilient “civilizational country” with deeply rooted democratic principles.
